Helpful Hints When you receive your stencil, check it for errors. We try to be careful when crafting them, but mistakes do occur. If an error in our workmanship is found, return the unused stencil to us with corrections noted and we will replace it at no cost and reimburse you for the return postage. Practice your stencil and spray technique on scrap material first. Use vinyl or nitrile gloves to avoid painting yourself. Observe all safety precautions the paint manufacturer recommends. To avoid unsightly overspray you can attach your stencil to a larger 'donut' of durable cardboard or flexible posterboard. For best results - attach the stencil to the underside of the 'donut' with good quality masking tape. The object to be stenciled should be clean and dry. For better security, select a location that is easily visible without diminishing the value of the item. A rough or pebbled surface is more difficult to remove paint from, so you should use such a location for your security markings. Paint may be either brush-applied or sprayed. We've had good results with either method but spraying is easier and there's less cleanup. Be sure the stencil is in close contact with the object being marked. Tape it down with removable tape so the paint spray does not 'bleed' under the stencil. Applying a repositionable adhesive to the underside of the stencil before placing the stencil onto the object will improve your image quality by ensuring intimate contact between stencil and substrate. Use good quality spray paint which is suitable for the object being marked. We recommend Krylon products (available at most any hardware store). For best durability you may want to select an epoxy spray paint. If you are stenciling onto fabric (such as your luggage), there are specialty paints available at craft stores specifically designed for giving opaque images. Spray several thin coats of paint to avoid drips, runs and streaking. After spraying, remove the stencil very carefully to avoid smearing the painted image. Allow the stenciled image to dry thoroughly before handling. Consult the paint container directions for information.
After use, wipe the wet paint gently from the stencil and allow it to dry thoroughly before storing. When not in use, keep your stencil flat in a dry location. |
